CommentsMy sister & I recently stayed one night at Wildlife Gardens. While the cabins are basic (stayed in cabin 1)
they met our needs. The beds (2) were comfortable, the shower (no bath) was small but good, no TV, morning breakfast was good, and overall the stay was very enjoyable. The cabins (4) are at the edge of the bayou and stick out over the water. In the compound are peacocks, penned alligators, turtles,
raccoons, a bobcat, and goats. We got to feed our own 6 ft. wild gator in the morning below our cabin porch. At night the noises from the surrounding area was all the entertainment we needed. Lots of soothing swamp noises....mostly frogs croaking. Perhaps 60-90 minutes from New Orleans with a pleasant ride once you leave the main highway. Betty & Vernon are very hospitable and eager to share their slice of
Cajun heritage with others. I questioned whether to spend all my time in New Orleans rather than end up somewhere where there was nothing to do at night. I'm glad I ventured outside New Orleans and now wish I'd spent another night visiting the area near Gibson.
A truly memorable experience all around.
